Last weekend we were hosting a dinner party for my family and friends from New York. We had such a wonderful time that the whole party rather expectantly transitioned into “beer, drinks, videos with good old music and lots of laughs” one and extended to the breakfast on the next day
. I love guests sleep overs.
For Saturday dinner I served:
potato and broccoli soup with oven toasted Italian bread sprinkled with garlic pepper
glazed pork short ribs with baked potatoes seasoned with herbs de provence
+ choice of two sides: red beets salad and carrot salad
bottle of Apothic red table wine brought by our guests
How does that sound?
I was so busy cooking and entertaining my guests that I didn’t take even one picture but I promise I will recreate those dishes again and post the recipes + pics here.
The recipe for the Potato and Broccoli Soup was from Andrea’s blog and I must tell that my guests just loved it and so did I. I promised them that I will post the link to the recipe site on my blog. So here it is:
Delicious Potato and Broccoli Soup Recipe
(Thank you Andrea. I love your recipes
. Oh and the wine that my guests brought was delicious, what a coincidence that you recommended that wine to me a couple of days before. I remembered that.)
Later on, I realized I had not cooked any of the dishes in my kitchen before so that was kind of risky to serve them to my guests not knowing how they taste but thank goodness everything was super delicious
.
Today, I want to share with you some of my favorite fruit spreads. It is sort of an intro to my next post… My preference when choosing a fruit spread is sugar free or sweetened with juice concentrates, I don’t like when they are too sweet. I love them for breakfast especially with a toast or on a top of a farmer’s cheese slice or simply straight from the jar. I also found fruit spreads ideal ingredient when cooking some of the savory-sweet meals…wait for my next post…you are going to love the dinner recipe I recently tried.
Apple Butter, even sound of this word is delicious. I choose sugar free but the one with addition of honey is also great. This particular is from Kime’s. I have days when I eat that stuff like crazy, preferably straight from the jar
Organic Super Fruit. What a blend!!! What a color!!! I’m recently addicted to this jar of sweetness from Trader’s Joe.

Bionaturae Sour Cherry Spread – Nothing like cherry spreads…perfect balance of sweet and sour. Straight from Italy.

Fresh Plum Spread – My childhood sweet treat, Plum Butter Povidel- perfect with a toast…yum. Straight from Poland ![]()

365 Wild Blueberry Spread – I won’t say no to Wild Berries spreads for breakfast.

Have you tried any of those? What are your favorite spreads and how do you like to eat them?

I made Andrea’s broccoli soup earlier this week and it was fantastic! She always has the best recipes
Indeed, I am going to make that soup again and again…I gotta make your onion soup too. I have major craving after your post last week
you ladies are SO sweet! and that Apothic red wine is one of my favorite house wines!
I must check if they have that wine in my liquor store. I’ll take the whole case if they do!
I had the Trader Joe’s spread on my English muffin this morning and have gone through like 4 jars already. I love that stuff! Sounds like a decadent meal you prepared for your friends.
Yes, these TJ’s spreads are addictive
I’m with you– I dont like my fruit spreads to be too sweet. Just the fruit is enough sweetness for me. I made my own apple butter this last fall and it was fantastic, too bad it’s gone now
Homemade apple butter-yum!!! Every fall we go to organic orchard for apple picking so I have to start making my own spreads too. Thanks Kelly
I have been meaning to try out apple butter! It looks great but I hope it tastes like apples still lol
Good quality apple butter is made of fresh pressed apple cider and tree ripened apples so it preserves natural apple flavor. If you like apples you should totally give it a try
